#GoldenGlobes2015: John Legend And Common Win Golden Globes Award For Best Original Song

Common and John Legend

The Golden Globes of the past have always been stiff, snobby, pompous affairs. Though no one really believed Oprah‘s vanity film ‘Selma’ had a chance of winning a Golden Globe award last night, rapper Common and singer/songwriter John Legend pulled off something of an upset by winning Best Original Song for the truly forgettable “Glory” off the ‘Selma’ soundtrack.

It’s obvious that the Golden Globes folks were trying to appease ‘Selma’ supporters by tossing Common and legend a bone. Pop icon Prince even presented the award to the duo.
But it was Common’s narcissistic “I am” speech that sparked the biggest buzz on Black Twitter last night.
Rapturous praise aside, many observers thought Common’s speech was contrived and just a bit disingenuous. Didn’t he once rap about killing cops? But we should forget his cop-killing references of the past because ‘Selma’ “awakened” Common’s “humanity”.

Hollywood suits were impressed by Common’s prepared speech.

But not everyone was in awe of Common, who once praised cop killers in his lyrics.
