iRelate Buzz: Ladies If Your $20,000 Hermes Birkin Bag Smelt Like Marijuana Would You Return It Back To The Store?
If you are fortunate enough to spend $20,000 on an Hermès Birkin bag, the last thing you want is for it to smell — especially like marijuana. However, some recent purchasers of the exclusive bag say they’re so pungent they had no choice but to return them to the store. Some customers have been told by staff at the store that there was a problem with a “badly tanned” batch of leather from a supplier to Hermès.
Customers — some of whom have paid $20,000 or more for the exclusive bags — have been told by staff at the luxury goods store that there was a problem with a “badly tanned” batch of leather from a supplier to Hermès.
‘“Owners are returning the Hermès bags back to boutiques across the US, including the Madison Avenue store, saying they smell of skunk. The bags are being sent back to Paris as nobody knows quite how to deal with this embarrassing situation.”’
The problem doesn’t affect ALL Hermès leather products, but it is affecting multiple bags in varying colors which retail from $5,000 to $20,000.
Here’s the most upsetting part: The people receiving the smelly bags purchased them as far back as 2013! Each bag is handmade and there’s a super long waitlist. Some wait months, even YEARS to get their hands on one.
The bags have to go back to Paris, have the bad-smelling leather panels removed and the entire bag rebuilt.
On the bright side there are PLENTY of inexpensive purses that probably don’t smell bad that they can carry in the meantime.
