Controversial Talk Show Host Joan Rivers In Stable Condition After Respiratory Arrest

Robin Williams and Joan Rivers

Comedian Joan Rivers was rushed to a NY area hospital where she is listed in stable condition after she stopped breathing while undergoing a routine endoscopic procedure at an outpatient clinic. An endoscope is a small, flexible tube with a camera and a light at the end of it. The endoscope is passed down a patient’s throat by doctors who look for abnormalities (tumors, ulcers, etc.) in the patient’s esophagus or the stomach. Rivers, 81, is pictured above with the late Robin Williams.

Rivers’ only child, Melissa, (pictured above) was spotted at LAX airport in Los Angeles, where she boarded a flight to NYC to be with her mother. Police told Fox411: “An 81-year-old female was transported Mount Sinai in critical condition… at 9:39 a.m.”

From Fox News:
E! News host Ken Baker tweeted that Rivers’ condition had stabilized, and said on the network’s live webcast: “We are told she is in stable condition.”
But when reached for comment, a rep for E! said they had no information on her condition, and declined to comment further. A report on the E! News website stated that Rivers was in the Intensive Care Unit as of Thursday afternoon.

Mount Sinai did not release any information about Rivers’ condition.
“Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support,” a spokesperson for the hospital said. “We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available.”
E! News reported Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, rushed to New York to be with her mother. Rivers is the lead host on E!’s hit series “Fashion Police,” which features a panels of celebrity commentators dissecting the outfits stars are spotted wearing.
